Strong's Concordance

The Strong's tab (Ctrl + 3) is for word studies. It has two views, switched at the top of the tab:

  • Dictionary lists all 14,700 Strong's entries (8,857 Hebrew and 5,843 Greek) with their original word, transliteration and definition.
  • Reader shows the King James Bible with each tagged word linked to its Strong's number.

Any definition can go on the screen, which helps when a preacher is explaining the original meaning of a word.

Dictionary

Finding an entry

  • By number. Type a Strong's number like H430 or G26 in the search box. Crater opens that entry straight away.
  • By word. Type an English word like love or shepherd to find entries whose definition mentions it.
  • Greek or Hebrew. Choose Greek or Hebrew in the sidebar to pick which half of the dictionary you browse and search. Number lookups work in either.

Each result shows the number (blue for Hebrew, green for Greek), the original word with its transliteration, and a short definition.

Reading an entry

Click a result to see the full entry on the right: the number and original word, part of speech and the complete definition. Where the entry says which word it comes from, click that number to jump to it.

Reader

The Reader shows the King James Version with Strong's numbers, starting at Genesis 1.

  • Type a reference like John 3 or jn 3 16 in the search box to open that chapter.
  • Use the ‹ and › buttons to move to the previous or next chapter.
  • Tagged words are underlined with a small number beside them.
  • Click a word to see its Strong's entry in a bar at the bottom of the tab.

Long definitions are split into several slides, labelled like H430 · 1/3. Strong's slides use your default scripture theme.

To add a Strong's entry to your schedule, find it with global search (Ctrl + K) and press Shift + Enter.

Hiding the tab

If your church doesn't use Strong's, turn off Settings > Scripture > Show Strong's tab. The tab disappears, Strong's results leave global search, and the Ctrl + number shortcuts for the tabs after it move down by one.

If the tab says "Strong's data not found"

Crater's Strong's data ships in two files inside the app's legacy folder: strongs-dictionary.sqlite and strongs-bible.sqlite. Both are needed. If you see this message, reinstall Crater from the Downloads page. If you're using the portable zip, make sure you kept the legacy folder next to crater.exe.
